Opportunity Types

When posting an opportunity on Climate Calling, choosing the right type helps applicants quickly understand what you're offering. Here's a quick guide to help you select the best category.

Volunteer

Unpaid positions where contributors donate their time to support your organization or initiative. Can be one-time or ongoing, remote or in-person.

Use this when: You're offering an unpaid role with flexible commitment levels.

Job

Paid positions including full-time, part-time, contract, or freelance roles in climate-focused work.

Use this when: You're hiring and offering compensation (salary, hourly wage, or contract payment).

Internship

Structured, time-limited positions (typically a few weeks to several months) designed for students or recent graduates. May be paid or unpaid, and often includes mentorship.

Use this when: You're offering a learning-focused role with a clear start and end date, ideal for students building experience.

Event

One-time gatherings such as workshops, webinars, conferences, rallies, or community meetings with a specific date and time.

Use this when: You're hosting a single event that people can attend, rather than an ongoing commitment.

Grant

Funding opportunities for individuals or organizations to support climate projects, research, or initiatives. Requires applications or proposals.

Use this when: You're offering money to fund climate work, not looking for people to join your team.

Program

Structured initiatives or cohorts that bring participants together for a defined period, often including training, resources, mentorship, or funding.

Use this when: You're running a multi-week or multi-month program with scheduled activities, cohort experiences, or comprehensive support.

Project

Short-term, task-based work with a defined scope and estimated time commitment (e.g., "20 hours to audit our social media strategy"). Often skilled work that can be completed remotely or in-person. These can be paid or volunteer positions.

Use this when: You have a specific task or deliverable (like consulting, research, or content creation) rather than an ongoing role.
